VPN
- PalmOne's

- Certicom's Movian VPN
looks like the strongest candidate, being
IPSEC, and being still in existence. :)
- Setting up ipsec
- lartc howto
- ipsec-howto.org
- I've tucked away an openoffice document in my ~/notes
directory about how to set up ipsec on FC2 without using
system-config-network. It covers both shared keys and X.509
certs.
- PPTP
- The Tungsten C comes with a PPTP client. It sure would
be nice to be able to use that.
- poptop, which is a linux PPTP server, appears to be too high
maintenance.
- wmpptpd is also a linux PPTP server, and looks like it might
be lower maintenance than poptop. However, it's much less
well-known, and has a low version number. Then again, it
claims to interoperate with more PPTP implementations than
poptop.
- mpd
is for *BSD systems.
- Securepoint firewall claims to have PPTP support, but it
crashed on sabaki many times. It's based on linux.
- IPCOP (linux based appliance distribution) has some stuff.
However, when I actually installed it, it became apparent that it
doesn't have a PPTP server, but rather PPTP passthrough.
- m0n0wall is a FreeBSD-based
firewall and VPN appliance minidistribution. It uses php instead
of sh, and includes PPTP. The PC version requires working
floppy drive.
- I eventually wound up going with Devil Linux, which includes
PPTP server support out of the box - despite the dopey name.
