• This is a book by Andrew Tanenbaum that has a very nice appendix about the C programming language. Read appendix A on page 350. BTW, to the PDF viewer built into chromium, it's page 367. It doesn't appear to be in the fourth edition of the book, sadly. The link is to the first edition.

• Perhaps read this too. It makes its point using FORTRAN, but the concepts apply to C even more.
