Canon inkjets are reportedly inexpensive, like most contemporary inkjets, but the ink cartridges don't cost an arm and a leg. I have one report of a Canon model (BJC-2110) working well with Redhat 9. It's probably still worth doing some research on each model to make sure it works with Linux before buying.
Lexmark is trying to use the DMCA to foil cartridge refillers :(
