The Kakusei (鶴聖) tournament was founded by JAL in 1979, and discontinued in 2002. Games were broadcast by TBS.
In the 1st-7th editions, there was a 5-player League, possibly with playoff, to determine the winner. In the 8th-25th editions, the Kakusei tournament was a knockout tournament for 12 players. Four top title winners got a bye in the first round. Komi was 5.5.
