Linksys BEFSR11 (and BEFSR41) information

The most recent firmware (Sun Sep 19 20:16:03 PDT 2004) is befsr-v1.46.02_code.bin.

This version is horribly broken, and rumor has it 1.46 is as well.
Connecting from Fedora Core 2 to AIX 5.1, Solaris 9, and IRIX 6.5.x did not work at all with this firmware (I could connect, but servers would not present any banners until they received input).
Connecting from Windows 2000 Pro to AIX 5.1 did not work well either; I could connect with putty, but it would never finish authenticating me.
Connecting from FC2 to RHEL 3 worked, but very slowly.
Connecting from FC2 to Tru64 5.x worked well.

Rumor has it that 1.45* have DHCP renewal problems.

Word on the net is that version 1.44.2 works well. And fortunately, befsr-fw-1442.zip is still on linksys' ftp site

This works:

...but first you have to clear out the router's password (not the PPPoE or RAS password, but the router's password). Note that at least at one time, you could use konqueror to clear the password, but not mozilla.
If you don't set binary mode, it'll complain about your password. :-S
My experience so far bears out the idea that 1.44.2 works well, but see below.
Update, Sep 22, 2004: I tried to tunnel VNC through ssh through my linksys DSL router, with firmware 1.44.2, and it crashed - it immediately lost pingability.
Linksys really needs to do a better job of quality control!
