Unlike the BEFSR11 I used to use, the
WRT54G actually looks like a decent piece of equipment.
I was able to replace my old BEFSR11 and my Netgear FS605 with it,
plus it adds wireless 802.11[bg], and has a nice complement of software
features, due to the fact that it runs a linux 2.4.x kernel.
There's a variety of firmware upgrades for this unit
- Linksys itself has pretty good firmware available on its website.
I compared the Sveasoft firmware, but it seemed like the most recent
Linksys firmware had all the same features as the Sveasoft
"extensions". This could mean that Linksys bought Sveasoft's
firmware, I suppose.
- This hyperdrive
firmware is supposed to boost your signal legally.
